I was awakened about 8:15 in the morning today by a quake that would turn out to be 7.2 on the scale and devastated the islands of Bohol and Cebu in Central Visayas. Churches in Bohol, some I visited for the first time way back in 2010 such as the Baclayon Church, collapased under the power of the quake. The Sto. Nino Cathedral in Cebu City was also partly destroyed, at least the belltower.
Initial reports indicated that 20 people died. Internet in Tacloban City was shut down, or at least slowed to a snail's pace.
The quake centered under Carmen town in Bohol and virtually destroyed historic landmarks such as the Luboc Church, damaged roads and bridges and destroyed houses, not to mention killed many people.
